Professor Cassia Spohn (Arizona State University) is the leading expert in sentencing research.
She has written extensively on the effects of race/ethnicity and sex on state and federal sentencing decisions, sentencing of drug offenders, the deterrent effect of imprisonment, with more than 100 articles published. Professor Spohn also authored How Do Judges Decide? The Search for Fairness and Justice in Punishment, which is now a standard undergraduate text. Her research was cited by the U.S. Supreme Court, and she has been directly involved in advising policymakers and criminal justice professionals.
